Cisco SmartNET Gets Better: "Smart Call Home"
If I get one more email about this from Cisco...I'm adding them to my SPAM list. Cisco is HEAVILY pushing the new "Smart Call Home" feature, implemented primarily on Cat 6500s and data center gear. Just to save you some reading, this feature allows Cisco devices to automatically create a secure connection to Cisco TAC to transmit troubleshooting / diagnostic information. It's supposed to hit the ISR series (800, 1800, 2800, etc...) in "Late 2009". Seems nice...as long as your device still has Internet access...

Yes, also read in the default IOS configs about this feature. But over all -- I don't like pushing data to any manufacturer without reviewing and deciding myself what to send and what not so send.

If I remember correctly, Cisco had a similar feature in their IPCC Enterprise software (now UCCE). I didn't know a single group who actually used it. In theory it's a good idea, but the idea of sending stuff blindly to Cisco scares me a little.

You made a fair point, but have you really thought about how it'd affect other people? I'm not saying you're wrong, I just desire to identify that there's more than one side to this story.
