Training in an Alternate Universe
So...I'm sitting in the Cisco keynote speech featuring Padmasree Warrior (Cisco's new CIO) who is talking about the power of collaboration in the world. She was mentioning things like Twitter, vLogs, and Second Life...suddenly, a brilliant idea hits me: training in Second Life?!? Is it possible?
Okay, I admit, up until now, I thought Second Life was going to lead us into the Matrix...where everyone lived in and was controlled by machines. I steered clear of it. But, now I'm thinking - is it possible to deliver live, interactive classes through Second Life? Help me out here second-lifers...Here's my idea...
Build a "virtual classroom" in second life where "virtual students" can come and see a whiteboard, ask questions, watch live demos on Cisco gear, maybe even do labs themselves? Is it possible? What would it take to make it happen?
This could be really cool...

Microsoft is doing this with their developer events.

JC,
Sign me up. I would love to try it out or help in any way possible. I've moved up via desktop, servers, team mgt to dept. management, etc and with a full time IT job it is difficult to get enough experience on the Cisco (network) side of the house (especially in a production shop) so the more I can immerse myself in it the more I can learn, grown and most importantly stay motivated.

Nothing beats interacting with people in the real world.

If you could, please email me about possibly setting up a partnership with our two sites, I read an old post that mentioned you were looking into making a forum. I would love to host boards for you at www.cisco-forums.com.
Let me know-
Thanks

If you're into this sort of thing check out http://www.machinima.com/ . This is basically video in second life (which could be used for tutorials).
It might work if you could get the detail on the models very high / have ability to connect cables etc.

The second life is cool idea I'm not sure if you can share your computer monitor on it to show what commands you are typing , I think using online TV will be awesome , it will be like CBTNuggets but with interactive between the instructor and the students

Great idea JC...but how would you tackle multiple questions by multiple users in short frame of time?
