CallManager 6.0 and 6.1 in VMWare
Sorry for the lack of posting as of late. All my time has been consumed in finishing up the CIPT (CallManager) series for CBTNuggets. While CallManager 4.X currently owns the market (and probably will for years to come), it looks as though Cisco is producing a pretty killer solution in Callmanager 6.X versions. So...I bought the software off Ebay and found this link detailing instructions on getting 6.X versions of CallManager running in VMware. What surprised me is that these instructions are from Cisco TAC!!! Hurrah for Cisco finally realizing that people will be running CCM in lab environments! No more registry hacks (not that you could with Linux anyhow). Cisco even provides the VMWare environment file that sets up VMWare exactly like you need it for CCM 6.X. Nice!
Here's the link: Click right here
Also, right on this link, Cisco's approval for running CCM in VMWare for demo/lab purposes: Click right here
UPDATE: I've attached the VMWare Environment file right here.
UPDATE #2: How funny - during the installation, the CCM 6 software recognized that I am running this in VMWare:
Also equally funny: I tried to install the CCM 6.X software on my MCS-7815 server from Cisco and it gave me an unsupported hardware message. VMWare works; older Cisco hardware does not :).

Some more info in the technical specs you should use for VMWare:
You should have the following minimum resources: Processor: At least a 2.4Ghz Intel P4 /AMD Athlon 2400 Memory: At least 1.5GB or memory. (1GB for CCM6 and 512mb for your host OS) Hard Drive Space: At least 36GB of free space on your host OS where the VM image will reside. Network: At least a 10/100Mb ethernet card.

Yeah it rocks, i recently set up a ccm6 vmware lab and had a couple of dynamips routers and another two vmware pc's running softphones.
I was able to make calls between the two softphones.
Very cool.

If you're looking for a Cisco page to order the VMware version of Cisco Unified CM for development use, look at the paragraph at the bottom of this link.

What is the trick that makes it run under vmware?
I want to run it under under Virtual server 2005
Since OCS2007 is also running under virtserver 2005
Is it only about disc geometry or is there more ?
As i asume that would solve it. As the vmx file in the zip seams to be not that strange.

Hey - anyone able to use VMWare Converter to "clone" a UCM 6.1 server into a VMWare image?

Also - anyone able to apply the 6.1.2 update to their original 6.0.1 VMWare image? I can't seem to do it...

OK I have installed CUCM6.1 in VMware. It worked like a charm. But now I am stuck in a command prompt and I have no idea where to go from here to get it into the linux GUI environment. Can anybody out there point me in the right direction?

Yes i am currently using the converter to convert my physical cisco macines to Virtual Machines in my virtual infrastructure. Next will be to change the NIC's and the routing, and ding. You can throw some servers away.

Anyone have problems with CUCM 6.x not allowing phones to be configured in a VMware setup like this? I get a license manager error when I try to manually add a phone and auto-registration doesn't pick up any of my phones (same issue). All services are active and running looking at the serviceablity sections. Any ideas?

Hi JC,
have you had a situation where you cant browse to ccm using the ip add or the hostname in IE? on the local machine where vmware is installed with ccm running? and even from other hosts on the network,.. using different browsers. Oh I am able to ssh to it,. no filters or firewall enabled on my router(which is my switch aswel)
its happened on the 2nd server i set this up on, cause i thought it was the OS that was dodgy.
If you have.. how do I fix it? :)
Regards,
Jean
