Okay, here's the scoop:
- CCNP will now be three exams, ROUTE, SWITCH, and TSHOOT
- Exam price will increase from $150.00 to $200.00 per exam
- ROUTE and TSHOOT courses (typically 1 week Cisco official courses) are now supplemented with e-learning material (nearly 8 hours for ROUTE and 9 hours for TSHOOT) which is exam material
- Classes / Exams are becoming even MORE real-world (TSHOOT class is 92% hands-on)
- New ROUTE and SWITCH exam is available in March, TSHOOT is available in April.
- BSCI exam can substitute for ROUTE or vice versa
- BCMSN exam can substitute for SWITCH or vice versa
- ONT and ISCW exams can substitute for TSHOOT until end of July (ONT/ICSW exams expire then...BSCI and BCMSN are no longer offered after July 31, however can substitute for ROUTE / SWITCH for their entire 3 year expiration period).
- New CCNP exams now prepare you more for the CCIE R&S

Hi Jeremy,
I don't get it all. The CCNP R&S will be changed. Im studying for my BCMSN so, what will be that in the future ?
And how about the others CCVP/CCSP etc. But my main question is, the things that I learn now, will that be the same as the new exam SWITCH ?
The changes have been interesting for those who are currently studying for the CCNP.
I myself have completed the BCMSN and BSCI, and have enough experience to complete the ISCW and ONT as they stand.
However, Cisco recommends I skip both of these and wait for the TSHOOT. Surely the content that was in the ISCW and ONT will be moved to the "new" SWITCH and ROUTE exams, and my concern would be that my CCNP overall would feel a bit "disjointed" if I went the route they suggest.
Not to mention I booked the ISCW this morning and intend to pass it in the next few weeks.
Ah well.
i think previous ccnp was also awesome...
earlier ccnp == ccnp r/s +ccna sec + qos
now ccnpv6 == ccnp r/s(virtually dey incresed the price)
ccnp earlier = 150 * 4 $$
now for this thing we need
New CCnp V6 == 200 * 3 + 250(ccna sec) + 250(cvoice)
I saw if you've gotten half of the CCNP exams out of the way, finish up. Study guides are available now but it'll probably be months before official cert guides are out for the new exams. That's what happened to me when they changed the CCNP adding the ONT and ISCW. I decided to forgo the WAN and Troubleshooting of the original cert for the ISCW and ONT and it was tough finding the stuff I needed over several references. In fact I had my CCNP for months before the books were released.
more details on the announcement + video from Cisco here http://itdualism.wordpress.com/2010/01/25/new-ccnp-official-announcement/
I'm also in the process and will try to complete the current track. overall I think it is a good step making the exam more real world but they didn't leave mid-process candidates enough time to consider the options
I'm a little torn as to what to do.
I just passed ICND2 two weeks ago (Thanks, Jeremy!). I have already bought my books and plan to make CCNP by late August. I really don't have the time to wait for the new exam guides to come out.
That being said, however, I like the idea of the new CCNP being more like the CCIE R&S exam. That is my long-term goal. Exactly how si the new CCNP more like CCIE R&S?
thanks,
Thanks for the scoop Jeremy.
I'm a little disappointed that they didn't give a year for all the exams to retire. They're giving extra time to NetAcademy people, but not to regular folk. That's just unfair.
I bought all my books at once, over $AU500 I spent on textbooks and now half of them I'll be throwing in the rubbish unused.
I haven't sat any of the exams yet, but I'm pretty close to sitting BSCI and I'll have BCMSN done before the cutoff date. Am I better off holding off entirely?? I've been studying for months for hours on end and I don't like the idea of stopping where I am and reading another 800 page textbook all over again.
What to do... :-/
Hey Jeremy,
I already took the BCMSN not too long ago, so my best CCNP path should be #3? BCMSN, ROUTE, and TSHOOT?
Thanks for your help, love your videos.
Check this out:
As I understand correctly you could get CCNP with 2 tests, the Composite now and then wait till TSHOOT :D
To Ian,
I think that is what I am going to do as well... take BCMSN and BSCI and then hit TSHOOT.
Also, I too should stop and thank Jeremy Ciarra for his excellent CBT Nuggets videos. Jeremy: You are the first person to make me understand subnetting; now I can do it in my sleep. I've gone from uncertified to CCNA less than four months. Thanks!
Hi Jeremy,
Thank for notifying us.
Hi Jeremy,
Please tell me you will be creating a series for the new TSHOOT (642-832). I don't think I'll ever be able to pass a Cisco exam without a CBT Nugget series by Jeremy Cioara :)
Thanks!
I Jeremy
This new tshoot course sound really promising, but, aren't the subjects in the ONT and ISCW also Important?
Hope to see your videos to this course to (it will be much easier to take this course :).
Hi Jeremy!
Me and a couple of my mates are about to end our CCNA, and start some CCNP education. And we where thinking abouting getting a lab setup of our own at home.
But which routers could we use for the CCNP labs? Will the 2600 series work fine, or de we need some newer stuff?
Thanks,
Mick
Got a question,
I just got my CCNA and do want to continue for the CCIP track. I want to do BSCI first but as I can see I can start from the 10th of March with ROUTE.
What is better? What's the difference?
I saw if you've gotten half of the CCNP exams out of the method, come to an end . Study guides are available now but it'll maybe be months before official cert guides are out for the new exams.Thank for notifying us.
Just checked out this Link to gets some idea of CCNA - Using the clear authentication sessions.
Well their is actually update in the CCNP track if you see Route & Switch outline you will come to know that Voice related stuff is out from CCNP. Now CCNP is entirely focus on R&S track not the QoS or Voice.
And about the rest of certifications like CCVP & CCSP they will remain's the same. No need to worry about them. Hope You got my point :-)
